The crankcase ventilation oil separator for the BMW X5 G05 B57 diesel engine separates oil vapour from crankcase gases before they re-enter the intake system. A failed separator causes blue smoke from the exhaust, increased oil consumption and MAF sensor contamination.

2. Remove engine cover and intake duct

4. Locate separator on left rear of engine block

6. Disconnect all 3 hose connections (mark positions)

8. Remove 4 mounting bolts
9. 5
10. Remove old separator and clean mating face
11. 6
12. Install new separator with new gasket
13. 7
14. Torque bolts to 10Nm
15. 8
16. Reconnect all hoses securely
17. 9
18. Run engine and check for leaks.
