The Intelligent Battery Sensor for the BMW 5 Series G30 monitors the battery state of charge, current flow, voltage and temperature in real time. The ECU uses this data to control the alternator charging rate and manage energy recovery. A faulty IBS can cause battery warning lights and charging system errors.

- Remove negative battery terminal cover

- Loosen IBS clamp bolt (do not remove completely)

- Slide IBS off negative post

- Disconnect LIN bus connector
- 6
- Install new IBS on negative post

- Torque clamp bolt to 6Nm
- 8
- Connect LIN bus connector
- 9
- Using BMW ISTA or compatible scanner, register new battery parameters.
